Herbert Blomstedt in Amsterdam

The end of this week in Amsterdam is marked with the concerts of Herbert Blomstedt, a renowned conductor from Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig and Mitsuko Uchida – a pianist. For the program Herbert Blomstedt has chosen two works closely linked to the musical life of Leipzig - Piano Concerto by Schumann and Variationen und Fuge uber ein Thema von Hiller by Reger. Max Reger based his Hiller Variations on a melody by Johann Adam Hiller, who served as Gewandhauskapellmeister during the 1780s. Schumann’s Piano Concerto was premiered in Leipzig on 1 January 1846. On this program, the work is performed by the Japanese pianist Mitsuko Uchida. The concerts will last three days – 8th, 9th and 11th December and will take place in Concertgebouw, Amsterdam. On 8th, 9th they will begin at 8.15 pm, and on 11th – at 2.15 p.m. |
