| New Year is a big celebration in Holland. The tradition is to stay at home with the families until midnight and then go somewhere. Many bars, restaurants and clubs offer special New Year parties. Some people like to celebrate on the streets. The most overcrowded districts are Leidseplein, Rembrandtsplein and Niewmarkt. There are a lot of tourists, the spectacular fireworks displays and all other elements of the big fest. Kids take to the streets with small firecrackers to surprise unsuspecting passers-by with delayed bangs. Dam Square is set up with beer tents and live shows. It’s one of the most popular places to meet New Year. From any bridge on the city’s main canals you can enjoy a view of the sky enlighten with fireworks from all directions and hear the incredible sounds of a city celebrating. |
