Amsterdam monument listing for boats

The LWO (the national Houseboat Association) has suggested that Amsterdam gets a monument listing for houseboats, similar to the monument listing for houses. This was caused because of the great (about 2,600) number of houseboats in the city, including very old ones, and the recent increase of the houseboat taxes. As a result, some boat owners won’t be able to maintain the boats. According to the LWO, Amsterdam risks losing a substantial part of its cultural heritage because of this. Particularly historic ships (for which maintenance costs tend to be higher) suffer from this.
