Hash Museum Amsterdam will not be expanded

The 'Hash Marihuana and Hemp Museum' was opened in 1985, and attracts some 70,000 visitors each year. The museum owner wanted to expand it to a larger, nearby building, but after 4 years of legal procedures the highest court in the Netherlands (Raad van State) has decided that Amsterdam-Centrum is not obliged to give a license for this. Alderman Iping (Social Democrats) wants to improve the 'liveability' of the Red Light District (the quality of the neighborhood living environment), and in her opinion a bigger Hash Museum is not part of this. She would rather see the museum disappear from the area. The museum is located in the Red light district, at Oudezijdsvoorburgwal 148.
