Hash Museum Amsterdam will not be expanded

| The 'Hash Marihuana and Hemp Museum' was opened in 1985, and attracts some 70,000 visitors each year. The museum owner wanted to expand it to a larger, nearby building, but after 4 years of legal procedures the highest court in the Netherlands (Raad van State) has decided that Amsterdam-Centrum is not obliged to give a license for this. Alderman Iping (Social Democrats) wants to improve the 'liveability' of the Red Light District (the quality of the neighborhood living environment), and in her opinion a bigger Hash Museum is not part of this. She would rather see the museum disappear from the area. The museum is located in the Red light district, at Oudezijdsvoorburgwal 148. |
