Trial of Ahold case in Amsterdam

This Monday, 6th March in Amsterdam began the trial in one of European largest financial scandals. Four former managers of Royal Ahold NV, including the global food retailer s former chief executive officer are accused of improperly booking sales from four Ahold subsidiaries in Scandinavia and Latin America. The prosecutor promises that confidential letters will show that they committed perjury when said to be innocent of any wrongdoing. A verdict is expected May 22. The Dutch trial covers only a part of the Ahold scandal. In the biggest part of the Ahold scandal the exaggeration of sales at its U.S. Foodservice subsidiary the men settled with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in which they admitted no guilt but accepted a lifetime ban from holding office in a publicly traded companies.
