Uylenburgh and Son
|
 |
A key role in art circles in 17th-century Amsterdam played the art dealers Hendrick and Gerrit Uylenburgh. Rembrandt worked for Hendrick Uylenburgh as the manager of his painting studio for nearly four years after he moved from Leiden to Amsterdam. And soon, launched by Uylenburgh, Rembrandt acquired fame as Holland’s leading portrait painter. So, Uylenburgh’s art store sold Italian and Flemish masters, as well as Dutch masters. And now this exhibition presents a representative overview of the sculptures and paintings, which the Uylenburgh store sold between 1625 and 1675. These include masterpieces by Antonie van Dyck, Gerard Lairesse, Caspar Netscher, Govert Flinck and, of course, Rembrandt. On display will be no fewer than fifteen paintings by the latter. And this exhibition you can see from September 14, 2006 until December 10, 2006 at Rembrandthuis, Jodenbreestraat 4. |
